Funeral services for 65-year old Donald “Duck” Yellow Hair are Wed, Nov 22, 2023 at 2:00 at St Michael’s Episcopal Church in Batesland, SD, with Mother Michelle Dayton officiating.

Burial is at St Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery in Wakpamni Lake, SD

A wake precedes the funeral Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM, also at St Michael’s Episcopal Church in Batesland

Donald Dean “Duck” Yellow Hair was born on Dec 3, 1957 in Pine Ridge, SD to Leo Yellow Hair and Elmarie (Two Lance) Yellow Hair.  Donald made his journey to the Spirit World on Nov 12, 2023 at the Pine Ridge IHS Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD.

Donald was an outstanding athlete in high school, winning many awards in cross country and setting a school record at Todd County High School.  Donald attended Bishop Hare School for Boys at Mission, SD before graduating from Todd County High in 1977.  

He was involved in the Western Hemisphere Run, Longest Walk, and Sacred Hoop 500 Mile Run, and other local events.  

Donald spent his life at home in Wakpamni Lake and was involved in all community events, especially cooking, mowing lawns, and fixing bikes.  Recently, the community presented him with the community service award.  

Donald will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace. 

Donald is survived by his sisters Amy (Larry) Ringing Shield, Audrey Yellow Hair and Loretta Yellow Hair; and brothers Marvin Yellow Hair and Walter Yellow Hair.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Leo Yellow Hair; mother Elmarie Yellow Hair; brothers Darrell Yellow Hair, Elmer Yellow Hair Sr, Gary Yellow Hair, and Jerry Yellow Hair; sister Jeanette Domingo; niece Karla Elk Boy; nephew Ted Yellow Hair Sr; and grandchildren Keisha Yellow Hair, Elliot Yellow Hair Jr, William Yellow Hair, and James Conroy.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Yellow Hair, Joe Yellow Hair Sr, Charlie Standing Bear, Brandon Conroy, Eldon Yellow Hair, Chade Feather Earring, Marc Domingo, and Terry Two Lance. 

Honorary pallbearers will be former Bishop Hare Home For Boys in Mission, SD 1972-1977, Todd County Falcons Class of 1977-Mission, SD, Long walk for survival walkers 1980, Western Hemisphere Runners 1982-1992, Wakpamni Lake Community, All Nursing & Medical Staff at Pine Ridge I.H.S., Colorado Medical Staff, and all friends & relatives.
