Donald L Egly was born on August 9, 1936, to Enise and Mae Egly. He passed away on April 16, 2024, at the Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.
Donald graduated from Chadron Prep in 1954, then proudly served in the U-S Army from 1956-1959. He met Lucille Clark at a high school rodeo dance in Harrison, NE and were married on November 27, 1959.
Donald worked as a truck driver, farmer and rancher on his family’s homesteaded ranch, and he was a long-time member of the Oelrichs Volunteer Fire Dept.
Donald enjoyed playing softball in his younger days, but throughout his life loved hunting and going to his favorite stock dams to fish. He also relished a good round of cribbage and an exciting game of bingo.
Donald will be remembered for his corny sense of humor and the fact that no one was a stranger to him as he loved to visit with anyone who came into his path. He especially loved spending time and tales with his Menno friends.
Donald is survived by daughter Melinda (Paul) Johnson of Frederick, SD; sons LaVern (Sandy) Egly of Blunt, SD, and Roger (Sue) Egly of Oelrichs; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife Lucille; parents Enise and Mae Egly; sisters Kathleen Schmidt and Enid Schmit; brother Robert Egly; and daughter-in-law Michelle Egly.
