Dorothy J Andrews Wickersham was born March 7, 1928, at home 11 miles northeast of Harrison and died October 10, 2022 at Crestview Care Center in Chadron after a full life of 94 years.
The early years were difficult for Dorothy and her family: mother Agnes, father Cap and brothers Billy and Donald. They moved a couple of times during the Depression, but eventually returned to the home place.
Dorothy graduated from Sioux County High School in 1946 and then married William N. “Bill” Wickersham in 1948. Her new home was not far from her old one, just 5 miles down the road, and while she had left two brothers at home, she found two new brothers at the new one.
The new brothers soon married and moved out leaving Bill and Dorothy to raise their family in the ranch house. It was a busy life with eventually three kids, a big garden, gatherings with family and neighbors, and Sunday mass at Montrose.
Bill died in 1969 and Dorothy moved to Harrison working in the County Treasurer’s office with her son Larry leasing and operating the ranch. She found new friends in Harrison and kept old ones playing cards and being active in her church.
Grandkids expanded the family and the dinners which usually included a couple of friends. Dorothy liked to cook and there was always room for one more at her table.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and sisters and her husband.
She is survived by her three children Bob, Larry and Virginia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren
