Driver Sentenced In Fatal Shooting Of Cheyenne Teen

Loading

A Wyoming woman will serve up to 3 years in prison for her role in the accidental shooting death in January of a 16-year-old Cheyenne girl.

26-year-old Sarah Heath of Burns was given 32-to-36 months after pleading guilty in May to charges of accessory after the fact to manslaughter, providing alcohol to a minor, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Heath was the driver when front seat passenger Angelina Harrison was fatally shot in the head when a pistol was accidentally fired in the back seat. The accessory charge reflected her driving to a mall parking lot before calling police and originally lying about what happened.

19-year old Tirso Munguia is awaiting sentencing next month after pleading guilty in May to involuntary manslaughter while 18-year old Cody Nicholson will be sentenced in November for accessory after the fact to manslaughter.

Police say Nicholson and Munguia were in the back seat of Heath’s car when Munguia set his gun and a magazine on the seat between the two women. He was “manipulating” the pistol when it went off, killing Harrison.

Heath immediately pulled over and Nicholson, who had an outstanding warrant for probation violation on a DUI charge, took the gun and ran. Heath then called 911 and drove to the parking lot, where first responders declared Harrison dead.

Mungia and Heath were arrested at the scene, but police say the initial lies led to it taking them nearly 3 hours to locate and arrest Nicholson.
