Funeral services for 85-year old Durwood Swimmer are Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 1:00 CT at the Rosebud Veterans Building in Rosebud, SD, with Deacon Ben Black Bear Jr officiating.
Burial follows at 3:00 CT at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Veterans Cemetery near White River, SD.
A one-night wake service starts Wed, June 28, a noon CT at the Rosebud Veterans Building with evening services at 7:00, followed by Military Roll Call.

Durwood Harland Swimmer was born on March 14, 1938 to William Henry Swimmer and Josephine (Young) Flood near the Moreau River in Dewey County, SD. Durwood made his journey to Spirit World on June 18, 2023 at his home in Hot Springs, SD.
Durwood is survived by his children Karen Swimmer-Blacksmith, Ramona Swimmer-Peneaux, Theresa Swimmer-Lamping, Kimberly Swimmer, and Douglas Swimmer; sisters Marion Young-One Star, Germaine Flood, and Mildred Flood; nephews Larry (Sandra) Swimmer and Marlin (Kathy) Swimmer; niece Janelle (Dick) Swimmer-Simon; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.
Durwood was preceded in death by his parents William Henry Swimmer and Josephine (Young) Flood; sons Dean Swimmer, Delano Swimmer, and Durwood Swimmer Jr; siblings Wayne Burton Swimmer, Lionel Henry Swimmer, Little Wayne Swimmer, Denise “Babe” Swimmer, Margaret Flood, Tuley Flood, Richard Flood, Velma Flood, and Elsie Flood.
Pallbearers will be Richard Iyotte, Ben Young, Joshua One Star, John Swimmer, Dominic Swimmer, and Dan Validiva.
Honorary pallbearers will be all Military Veterans, and All Friends & Relatives.
