Garden County’s stifling defense and productive offense lifted them past Sioux County Tuesday 79-36.
A full-court press during the first half helped Garden County jump out to a 43-15 advantage as the Warriors struggled to move the ball down court. Sioux County found better success after the break. The Warriors posted 14 points in the third quarter and another seven in the final minutes, but they had no answer for Garden County’s offense led by Johnny Vargas.
Vargas scored 22 for Garden County, and three of his teammates were also in double figures. Nate Billey and Wilsie Lobner each netted 12, and Wyland Lobner added 10 for the Eagles. As a team, Garden County was also dominant on defense, stealing the ball from the Warriors 34 times, with every player on their roster managing at least one steal.
Cy Hughson led the Warriors with 17 points, hitting five treys, four of which came in the second half.
