Despite a 42-37 rebounding advantage in the game, the Chadron State College women’s basketball team lost a non-conference road game in Orange City on Saturday to the Northwestern College Red Raiders, by a score of 88-59.

The Raiders improve to 8-0 on the season, while CSC is now 0-5.

“We just weren’t disciplined at either end of the court tonight,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach Janet Raymer. We must get better at execution, in order to compete going forward.”

Northwestern won the turnover battle, committing only 10 to CSC’s 23.

The Raiders scored the first bucket in the game, but the Eagles scored the next eight, to go up 8-2 at 6:45 in the first. Northwestern battled back, however to tie it at 8-8. The two teams battle back and forth for the remainder of the period, and the Raiders led 21-20 after 10 minutes.

After keeping it close for the opening minute of the second frame, Northwestern went on a 12-2 run to go up 38-26. From there, the Eagles’ deficit remained in the low double-digits for the remainder of the half, until the Raiders led 50-35 at halftime.

Northwestern stretched its lead to 25 at the end of three quarters. The Raiders’ Hannah Narem hit her first four field goals, on the way to an 8-for-10 night and a game-high 16 points, while CSC missed its first three. The hosts won the shooting percentage battle in that period 42.1 percent to 18.8 percent.

The fourth frame went similarly, with the Eagles limiting turnovers to only two.

Maddie Jones and Emilee Danner added 14 points each for the Raiders. Molly Schany was the game’s leading rebounder. Jones also dished out eight assists.

Kadyn Comer had a team-high 15 points for the Eagles, hitting five of her eight field goals and missing only one of six free throws. Ashayla Powers contributed 14 points and a team-high eight boards.

CSC remains on the road Sunday, in its final non-conference game. The Eagles visit Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for a Noon MT/1 p.m. CT tipoff.
