Celebrate Earth Day with Riverside Discovery Center on Saturday April 20 by planting shade trees on our campus with the Nebraska Forest Service and the North Platte NRD. Thanks to a Greener Towns grant through the Nebraska statewide Arboretum, the zoo has the opportunity to increase shade, expand the plant collection originally established by the
Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and install a pollinator garden later this spring during wildflower week.
The public is invited to the tree planting demonstration by our community Forester, Chrissy Land at 1 PM. Following the demonstration volunteers can help plant 20 trees that will provide shade to the parking lot, pathways and animal enclosures. Volunteers are encouraged to wear shoes for digging, long pants, and bring your gloves if preferred.
Volunteers that help with the planting will be entered into a drawing for a tree to take home
