A Celebration of Life for 89-year old Eileen Kamerzell will be held Sat, June 11, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD.

Burial is in the Martin Community Cemetery

Eileen Kamerzell was born on August 27th, 1932, on the Churn Ranch, south of Merriman, NE, to Bud and Pearl (Miller) Ladely. She departed this world on June 8th, 2022, at the Bennett County Hospital in Martin.

Eileen attended the Suhre country school and later Bennett County High School.

She was united in Marriage to Irvin Kamerzell on April 4, 1949. To this union five children were born: Roland, Katharine, Floyd, Nathelle and Russell.

The family lived North of Martin, South Dakota on property formerly owned by Eileen’s parents. After Irvin’s death in 1963, the family moved to town.

Eileen started working at Bates Supermarket and stayed there for over thirty years. She loved to interact with people and called her customers, “her people.” She didn’t hesitate to send a customer back to get the correct sale item or keep their kids in line while they shopped.

Eileen never met an animal she didn’t want to rescue – be it a cat, dog, snake or turtle. She loved to garden and was an excellent cook. She especially loved baking cookies.

Eileen was a member of the St Katharine’s Episcopal Church in Martin and volunteered at Community Action for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Bud and Pearl, her husband Irvin, four sisters – Donna, Phillis, Norma, and Ruth, two brothers – Irven and infant James, two sons – Roland and Floyd, and three grandsons – Marcus, Beau and Matt Kamerzell. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog Bella.

Eileen is survived by her children Katharine, Nathelle (Steve) and Russell (Kate); daughters-in-law Judy and Susan, sister Kay, brother Wayne, seven grandchildren – Richard, Kristy, Jesse, Cori, Abbie, Ally and Bailey. And several great-grandchildren.

Bennett County Funeral Service of Martin is in charge of arrangements.
