Elmer Dryer was born March 12, 1934 and passed away June 6, 2023, at Wilbur, NE.

Elmer Elwin Dreyer was born March 3, 1934, to Carl and Emma Dreyer in Rushville and passed away on June 6, 2023, in Crete, NE.

Elmer grew up on his parent’s farm with his four brothers and his Grandpa Dreyer, and was baptized April 1, 1934, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

On October 6, 1954, he married Delores Dohrman. They had two children: Diane and Gerald ‘Gary’,

Elmer loved farming, but to help raise a family, he took a job at the Food Bowl as a pinsetter mechanic. He worked there with a lot of different jobs until he had to retire because of his eyesight.

He worked the bowling lanes, tended bar, dud maintenance on appliances, and even cooked one New Years Day. Luckily, they were not busy. He enjoyed being around people and had a gift of gab to be able to talk to anyone.

When he got to the point of feeling he could not stay out on the farm anymore, Elmer moved to Wilber, NE, where Gary and Barb were living. He took up residency at the Czech Village (an apartment complex), where he made many friends.

At times, they would all pile into a car and go out to eat supper. He then moved into the Wilber Care Center and lived in assisted living until his passing.

Elmer loved to sing, whether it was in a choir or with quartettes. His favorite quartet was singing with Phyllis, Marty, and Delores. They would perform at special events for the church and the community.

Throughout his life, Elmer served many years on the Immanuel Church council. He was also active throughout the town with different projects when he was younger. For many years, he and his brother Ralph were the telephone lineman for his area telephone line. He also loved to fish and be around family and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Emma, his loving wife Delores, father and mother-in-law August and Ruth Dohrman, brothers Clarence, Richard, Harold, and Ralph, sisters-in-law Doris, Margaret, Faye, and Joyce.

Elmer is survived by his children Diane (Ed) Hunzeker and Gerald ‘Gary’ (Barb) Dreyer; grandchildren Stephen (Melinda) Hunzeker, Jonathan (Kelli) Hunzeker, Andrew Hunzeker, Heather (Chris) Eagle, and Stephanie (Kameron) Hahn; great-grandchildren Graham, Grayson and Teagan Hunzeker, Autumn and Logan Hahn, Alex, Nicholas, and Jaxson Eagle.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Diana Dohrman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Elmer Dreyer.

  1. NOT A SINGLE SOUL COULD SAY ANYTHING AGAINST ELMER BECAUSE HE NEVER MET ANYONE WITHOUT THAT SMILE, AN ENGAGING LAUGH AND FRIENDLY MANNER, THAT TRAIT HAS TOUCHED A MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE WHERE EVER ELMER WAS AND HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL OF THEM..REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND. DOUG MILBURN

  2. A genuine gentleman. He always had a kind word and a sincere smile on his face. He made a point of introducing himself to me, a somewhat lost teenager, when I first moved to Rushville and always treated me with kindness and respect. It meant a lot. I will always remember Elmer. Truly, one of the best.
