Final Update on the First Thunder Fire

Loading

Last Friday, the Type 3 Incident Management team working the First Thunder Fire southwest of Rapid City was relieved by a local unit led by a Type 4 Incident Commander.

Since then, the First Thunder Fire has been completely contained with a final reported size of 157 acres as reported by the Great Plains Fire Information page on Tuesday, September 10th. All roads that were closed due to the fire will be returned to their โ€œpre-fireโ€ conditions and promptly reopened.

The cause of the wildfire is still undetermined at this time.

Due to the fire being contained, this will be the final update on the First Thunder Fire. However, Great Plains Fire information still wants to remind the public that the Black Hills remain in very high fire danger and fireworks are always prohibited on public lands.
