Fire Near Sturgis Fully Contained

The Black Hills National Forest says the Kirk Hill Fire, about 5 miles southwest of Sturgis, was declared 100% contained at 80 acres Thursday afternoon.

No structures were lost to the fire, which began about noon on Wednesday.

      Crews will continue to patrol the perimeter and conduct mop up operations for several days. Smoke will be present for the next several days as well.

     A combination of local, state, and federal agencies responded to the Kirk Hill Fire including 2 helicopters, a heavy air tanker, bulldozers, fire engines, hand crews, and the Tatanka Hotshots.
