Senate passes Fischer cosponsored resolution honoring fallen Nebraska Trooper Kyle McAcy
WASHINGTON – Today, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved a resolution, cosponsored by Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE), recognizing National Police Week, which also honors fallen Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kyle McAcy.
“Last year, we mourned the loss of Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Kyle McAcy, who served our communities for a decade,” Fischer said. “I was proud to cosponsor this Senate-passed resolution honoring his service and recognizing National Police Week. To Nebraska’s men and women in blue: Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our people and state.”
Fischer’s Work with Nebraska’s Law Enforcement:
Federal investments
As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Fischer has secured millions of dollars to invest in Nebraska’s law enforcement. This includes upgrades to emergency communications and information systems and access to body cameras. Click here for more information on the funding Fischer secured this year.
With federal funding Fischer secured in 2024, the Omaha Police Department was able to procure a new helicopter, now used by their Air Wing. Click here for more information, and click here to read more in the Omaha World-Herald.
Legislation
In 2024, Fischer’s Recruit and Retain Act was signed into law, which provides law enforcement across the country with resources to combat staffing shortages.
Fischer also recently joined her colleagues in introducing the Project Safe Neighborhoods Grant Program Reauthorization Act, to reauthorize the nationwide law enforcement program that uses evidence-based and data-driven approaches to reduce violent crime.
Additionally, Fischer cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act, which would give federal prosecutors more tools to go after those who deliberately target law enforcement officers by creating a federal crime to knowingly cause, or attempt to cause, bodily injury to a law enforcement officer.
