Fleeing Suspect Dies Of Injuries From Crash

Loading

The Nebraska State Patrol says a driver who crashed early Saturday morning while fleeing a traffic stop in Lincoln has died.

20-year old Ahmad Gregory succumbed to his injuries Sunday at the Lincoln hospital where he’d been taken after the 12:50 am crash.

The State Patrol says a trooper tried to stop Gregory for driving with no license plates, triggering a chase on Lincoln city streets.

Gregory stopped at one point, but took off again when the trooper tried to make contact with him. He hit a parked car and sustained what proved to be fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. The entire chase took less than 2 minutes.

The State Patrol has turned over the investigation of the crash to the Lincoln Police Department and a grand jury will be called to review Gregory’s death.

Under state law, a grand jury is required anytime a person dies in custody or in the process of being arrested – including vehicle chases.
