Dawes County Attorney and Coroner Vance Haug says a man found dead Thursday afternoon apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Chadron Police were dispatched to the residence of 58-year old Benjamin Britton about 2:15 pm after his body had been found.
Officers reviewed the scene and interviewed potential witnesses, then contacted Haug, who arrived to assist with both physical evidence and witness statements.
Haug says the preliminary investigation led law enforcement to conclude foul play was not involved and that Britton died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
The investigation is continuing and Haug asks anyone with information about the death of Benjamin Britton to call the Chadron Police Department.
