The South Dakota Department of Tourism is providing free access to wireless internet at welcome centers along the interstates.
Travelers have had access to free wireless internet at 3 welcome centers including the one near Spearfish since mid-August in conjunction with the department updating those centers with new amenities.
Those amenities include updated interiors, museum-quality displays depicting the history of the area, information on local attractions and events, and interactive displays with some exhibits to engage families .
Some of the displays have important travel information such as road and weather conditions, closures and travel advisories along with incidents, and emergencies impacting traffic.
South Dakota Tourism employs about 40 travel counselors at the welcome centers who provide a welcoming first impression as well as travel advice, brochures and other print material for area attractions, and various forms of travel assistance.
