Funeral services for 67-year old Freida Wounded are Friday, Dec 17, 2021 at noon at the Wounded residence in the Cheyenne Creek Community of Pine Ridge, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Ms Florentine Blue Bird & Mr Jack Red Cloud

Burial is at the Wounded Family Cemetery in Cheyenne Creek.

A one-night wake service starts Thurs, Dec 16 at 10:00 at the Wounded residence in Cheyenne Creek.

Freida Marie Wounded “Otuwota Tehila Win” ~Loves Her Home~ was born on May 23, 1954 in Pine Ridge, SD to Maurice Wounded and Hattie (Bissonette) Wounded. Freida passed away from COVID-19 on December 7, 2021, in Casper, WY. She was blessed to have two of her sisters, Beverly and Maggie, and her best friend, Lilah Pengra, at her bedside when she made her way to the Spirit World.

Freida is survived by her siblings, Arlene Hawk, Beverly Bull Head, Maggie Julie Wounded, and William M. “Bimbo” Wounded; cousins, James, Vida, Vernie, Florentine, & Leo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Freida was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Hattie Wounded; sister, Cleo Wounded; siblings, Morris & Hattie Wounded, Francis (Opi) Wounded, Cleo Wounded, and Connie Weasel Bear-Wounded; grandparents, William Wounded and Cora (Owns The Fire) Wounded, Susie (Lone Elk) Bissonette and Joseph Bissonette; cousins, Jesse Fast Wolf, Donny He Crow, Richard Walking, Dave Looking Elk, Henrietta “Otta” (Tobacco) Janis, Harold Tobacco, Bernadine Tobacco, Dungan Tobacco, Lloyd “Chuck” Looking Elk, Roger Tobacco, Gilbert Bissonette, Jr., Paul Walking, Lester Walking, Peggy White Dress, Levi, Victor, & Karen Wounded, Rosebud Lone Elk, Michael Bissonette, Fanny Lone Elk, Elmar Lone Elk, Lawrence Lone Elk, Baby Lou Lone Elk, James Lone Elk, Jr., Douglas Yellow Boy, Al Yellow Boy, Darlene Yellow Boy, Paul Lone Elk, LeRoy Lone Elk, Rosemarie Sioux Bob, Harold, and Anthony; aunts, Zona Wounded, Corrine Wounded, Irene (Wounded) Tobacco, Victoria (Wounded) ???, and Angie Yellow Boy; uncles, Louie Bissonette, Gilbert Bissonette, Sr., Jerome Bissonette, Pedeo Bissonette, Sr., and Stobba Black Feet; grandson, Juan Mesteth; and nephews, Travis White Dress, Wilmer Mesteth, Tuffy Catches, Joseph Catches, Mike Sioux Bob, and Frankie Sioux Bob, Jr.

After her mother’s death, Freida moved to Hot Springs, SD in 1989. Her relatives and friends in both communities will miss her cheerful smile, good sense of humor and many phone calls. Freida liked to share her memories of a trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and birthday parties with her friend, Lilah.

She kept busy with her sewing and taking care of her much loved cat. Before retirement, Freida worked at a pottery factory. And, most important, she carried on the traditional skills she learned from her mother by making wojapi and soup for family ceremonies.

Pallbearers will be Rocky Bissonette, Raymond Trejo, Jr., William Wounded, Jr., Stanley Walking, Tony Walking, Markus Red Cloud, Francis Bull Head, and Saul Bull Head.
