Loading

Firefighters continue to battle wildfires across the Nebraska panhandle but were able to gain on the four Friday.

The largest of the fires is the Ash Pole Fire burning nine miles to the southeast of Crawford and has burned 1,100 acres. The Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands Facebook page said Friday night that the percentage of containment is still at 47% with confidence that containment of the east side of the blaze will hold. The Chadron Volunteer Fire Department said that there is a line around the entire fire.

The Grizzly Bear Fire just to the east of the Ash Pole Fire was reported at 100% containment Friday night with the total number of acres burned at 73.

The Rocky Fire southeast of Harrison has seen no update in the past 24 hours with 6.2 acres burned.

The Sand Fire in rural Sioux County 10 miles north of Henry has seen containment numbers rise as the fire was reported at 90% contained according to Wildfire Explorer last night with 425 acres burned.

Temperatures Saturday are expected to be back in the 80’s with relative humidity in the high teens. Rain is expected starting Saturday night with an even higher chance of precipitation coming Sunday night into Monday.
