A couple of weeks ago Nebraska head football coach Scott Frost said the starting quarterback spot was Casey Thompson’s to lose, on Thursday night Frost confirmed that Thompson will in fact take the opening snap next Saturday when the Huskers take on Northwestern in Ireland.
Frost was making his monthly appearance on Sports Nightly when he made the announcement.
Frost noted that Thompson is well ahead of Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers and attributed that to recent surgery that Thompson had to correct ligaments in his throwing hand.
Frost also said on Thursday that captains and Blackshirts will be named on Saturday.
