The Chadron Fur Trade Days board of directors is inviting the entire community to join with it tonight for a “State of the Fur Trade Days” input meeting at 6:00 in the Platte Valley Bank Community Center.
FTD President Kevin Oleksy says the annual celebration has been “a tremendous success” the last few years and the board is “committed to maintaining and growing the event’s momentum for the foreseeable future.”
Tonight’s meeting is part of that process by offering a review and update followed by a broad discussion on the future direction of Chadron’s annual community festival.
Oleksy says the board hopes to see representatives from all the participating organizations, sponsors, friends, and families attend but also any other interested community members, organizations, businesses, or potential volunteers.
Fur Trade Days Inc is directly responsible for booking and executing the tent-pole events for the celebration including the carnival, Traders’ Market, fireworks, and 3 nights of live music and does so with the help of generous local and area sponsors.
Oleksy says they also partner with great local organizations to promote and coordinate the cornerstone events that have endured over the festival’s many years.
Those include the Rotary Buffalo Chip Throw, Lions Club Fur Trade Day’s Parade, Chamber Ambassador Buffalo Barbecue, First Congregational Church Ice Cream Social, and the Bordeaux Creek Fur Trade & Muzzle Loaders Association rendezvous.
Oleksy emphasizes that, just like those partners, the board members are all volunteers who donate their time, ideas, and vision to ensure the success of the celebration each year and for the future.
