Great Plains Fire Information has released more updates on the Bennett Fire that has been burning 8 miles northwest of Edgemont since late last week.
Fire personnel continued holding the fire within the containment lines all Sunday night and into yesterday morning. Todayโs plan of action is to continue mopping up the burned area while continuing to secure and patrolling the remainder of the boundary, all while keeping firefighter and public safety at the forefront. Air tankers and aerial support are still available to support firefighters if needed.
As of 8:00 am this morning, there are still currently 110 fire personnel from across the region, including those from throughout South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Wisconsin, and Colorado. Multiple agencies and volunteer fire departments are supporting the effort to suppress the fire.
The fire remains at 367 acres on the Black Hills National Forest. However, significant efforts have been made and the fire is now 90% contained.
