Gary G. Winter was born February 4, 1958, in Gordon to John and Kathryn (Semans) Winter. He died Friday Nov 20, 2020, at his home surrounded by his wife and children.
As a young child, Gary lived in Rushville, NE, where he attended Cravath Elementary and graduated from Rushville High School in 1976. While in high school, he participated in basketball and was a member of the RATS, which he spent a lot of time cheering on the Rushville Longhorns.
After graduation he worked at the Rushville Coop where he met Debbie Dragoo. The two united in marriage on November 26, 1977, and took up residency in the house Gary had grown up in. To this union they welcomed a son, Barry, in June of 1978, a daughter April in May of 1981, and another son John, in November of 1983.
Gary worked at the Coop until the early 1990’s, first as the tire man and then later as the manager. After that, he worked for Wellnitz Construction for 10 years before opening his own business with his wife, called Winter Custom Design. He continued to work, doing what he loved to do, up until the time of his passing.
Gary was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed time with his kids and grandkids. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports and teaching them how to cheat at card games. He never won, but always found a way to twist the rules. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and feeding the squirrels. He was also a huge Husker fan! Go Big Red!!
Survivors include his wife Debbie Winter of Rushville, two sons, Barry (Carrie) Winter of Alliance, and John (Heather) Winter of Lincoln, a daughter April (Dustin Lee) of Rushville, grandkids: Kelsey, Tyler, McClain, Karter, Haylie, Allyson, Mason, Braylea, Alexander, and Madelynn. He is also survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
