Generational Baseball Icon Willie Mays Passed Away

Baseball legend Willie Mays passed away Tuesday, he was 93. Mays made his professional debut in 1948 for the Birmingham Black Barons at the age of 16, before making his major league debut in 1952 for the New York Giants. 

The “say hey kid” appeared in 23 different seasons between the New York/San Francisco Giants while finishing his career with the New York Mets. 

Mays hit for 660 home runs which is 6th all time, was seventh in runs scored at 2,068, drove in 1,909 runs, and had over 3,000 hits. 

He was a 24 time all-star, won 12 gold gloves, was the National League Most Valuable Player twice. He was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, in 1979 as a first ballot hall of famer.
