Gering City Pickup And Police Cruiser Collide At Traffic Light

Two people were injured Friday morning when a Gering police cruiser collided with a city-owned pickup in an intersection.

The police officer driving the cruiser had minor injuries and was taken to Regional West Medical Center by another officer.

The city employee in the pickup went to Regional West by Valley Ambulance with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation at the request of Gering police to avoid conflict of interest issues.

Sheriff Mark Overman says the preliminary investigation indicates the police cruiser was northbound on 10th Street about 7:40 with lights and siren activated when it hit the westbound pickup on the passenger’s side.

The driver of the city pickup was ejected. Witnesses said the pickup had the green light
