Funeral services for 59-year old Gilbert Cuny are Friday, Dec 22, 2023 at 11:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD, with Ms Joyce Tibbitts officiating and traditional Lakota services by Joe Swift Bird

A one-night wake service starts Thurs, Dec 21, at 4:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge with evening services at 6:00.

Gilbert Henry Cuny was born on June 28, 1964 in Rushville, NE to Lucille Deon. Gilbert made his journey to the Spirit World on December 12, 2023 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Gilbert worked as a bus driver and maintenance worker at Head Start and was also an official Firefighter Transporter, taking firefighters to airports, bus depots, and sometimes directly to the fires – both in the local area and to other states.
Gilbert was truly a jack-of-all-trades, working construction, mechanics, landscaping, and handyman work. He was also an artist and even dabbled in tattoos.
He would help many elders to keep their yards clean and could fix anything. Gilbert was his mother’s caretaker during her illness and cared for his family greatly.
Gilbert is survived by his father Guy Red Cloud; daughters Lindsey Cuny and Jessica Cuny; son Billy Jo Haas; siblings Lynette Cuny-Weston, Karla Cuny, Darcy Cuny, Troy Red Cloud Jr, Michelle Red Cloud, Tamara Red Cloud, and Levi Red Cloud; and grandchildren Alexis Brewer, BeBe Wincicala High Hawk, Noah High Hawk, Noella High Hawk, and Zoey High Hawk.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Deon; grandparents Earl Deon Sr, Olive Amiotte-Deon, and Evelyn Deon; aunt Ginger Vitalis; sister Lucille Marie Deon; brothers Marlin Deon and Warren Red Cloud; uncle Earl Deon Jr; and aunt Emily Deon.
