Gothenburg connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass in the final minute to thwart Chadron’s comeback attempt 35-28 there on Friday afternoon.
Quinn Bailey gave Chadron the lead just 15-seconds into the game on a 100-yard return on the games opening kickoff, but the Swedes countered with back to back rushing touchdowns to go on top 14-7 early through the 2nd quarter.
Bailey found the endzone again before half to tie the game at 14.
A Gothenburg kick return for a score to start the 2nd half and another rushing touchdown put them up 28-14 to start the 4th.
Bailey’s 3rd score of the day cut the deficit to 7 and Chadron climbed all the way back on the heels of a 65-yard pass from Broc Berry to Malachi Swallow to tie the game again at 28 before Gothenburg pulled off the winning play.
Chadron falls to 3-2 on the season and hosts Sidney next Friday.
