Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has appointed Jim Scheer of Norfolk as his successor on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

Pillen resigned his 3rd District seat just before becoming governor. Scheer will fill out the remaining 2 years of Pillen’s term.

Scheer is a former mayor of Norfolk, served 2 terms on both the State Board of Education and the state Legislature, and was Speaker of the Legislature for 4 years

A small business owner who runs an insurance agency and an auto-parts store, Scheer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Pillen says he appointed Scheer because they have a common belief in educational excellence, the importance of agriculture, and fiscal leadership.
