On Thursday, August 29, Governor Jim Pillen will be joined by Director Sherry Vinton of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) and livestock producers in unveiling measures designed to protect consumers and Nebraska’s livestock industry from lab-grown meat. Lab-grown meat is defined as having tissue originating from an agricultural food animal but that, in lieu of being derived from traditional meat processing, is derived from manufacturing cells in a controlled environment.
The event will kickoff a rulemaking by NDA for labeling requirements on lab-grown meat and an executive order by the Governor to prohibit procurement through the state.
