The next presentation in the Graves Lecture Series at Chadron State College is Tuesday, March 29, as CSC Assistant Professor of Education Joanne Hayes offers a talk titled simply How I Got Here.

It’s free and open to the public at 7:00 in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center Chicoine Atrium.

Hayes, nearing completion of her PhD, was raised in a small town in California but  moved frequently because her father was in the military.

She continued a somewhat nomadic life as an adult and can now list numerous states, England, and Ireland as having been home.

Hayes was living in New England, where most of her children and grandchildren still live, and looking for a job when she saw a Chadron State job opening online and took the position when it was offered because she was happy to be wanted.

Hayes says she came to Chadron with no preconceived notions about the community or area, and found it to be a perfect fit – adding that “it suits me down to my toes. I’ll be here till I drop.”
