Harold Evans Brown Bull, Sr. was born on October 12, 1960 in Pine Ridge, SD to Vera Turning Hawk-Brown Bull and Jerome Brown Bull. Harold made his journey to the Spirit World peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on November 25, 2024 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Harold grew up in Kyle, SD and lived there most of his life. He attended Little Wound School, where he played football and basketball. He graduated from Little Wound High School in 1978.
In 1985, Harold enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He attended and completed basic training at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. He resided in California for some time. Harold was sent to Aurora, CO, then was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During his active duty, he completed many courses. Harold received a Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Over Seas Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Mast, a Letter of Appreciation and a Southeast Asia Service Medal. When Harold finished his tour of duty and was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corp in 1995.
He came back to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and made his home at Kyle, SD. He started working for the Oglala Sioux Tribe Housing Authority. He was an avid carpenter and mechanic. Harold accomplished many things in life. He then lived in Martin, SD and Rapid City, SD for a short period of time. He met Kimberly Williams and moved to Schurz, NV. He later returned to South Dakota to be with family. Harold will always be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others, his carpentry skills, the comedian in him that would always make people smile, even on a tough day. More importantly, the love he had for his kids, his grandkids, his family, and his friends.
Harold is survived by his son, Jackson Mesteth; daughters, Miranda Brown Bull, Rachel Brown Bull, Sara Brown Bull, Selena Tobacco, Aleigha Brown Bull, and Allie Morisette; sisters, Geri Brown Bull and Pearl (Ernest) Little White Man; brother, Darrell (Norma) Brown Bull, Sr.; special friend, Kimberly Williams; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Turning Hawk-Brown Bull; father, Jerome Brown Bull; sons, Emmett Brown Bull, Ira Brown Bull, Sr., Harold Brown Bull, Jr., and Eric Brown Bull and their mother, Mona Mesteth; grandchildren, Isabelle Brown Bull and Antonio Brown Bull; sisters, Sara Brown Bull, Galene Brown Bull, and Laretha Brown Bull; nephew, Jerome โBuzzyโ Brown Bull; and many other family members who have passed on.
Pallbearers will be Frank Starr, Denny Delo, Ramone Marrufo, Kevin Eagle Heart, Loren Two Crow, Gerald Conoyer, Chuck Ross, James Silva, Angelo Marrufo, Tommy Delo, Ira Brown Bull, Jr., and Aiden Long Soldier.
Honorary pallbearers will be All Friends & Relatives.
Wake Services: One night wake service starting at 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Rockyford School Gym in Rockyford, SD with evening services starting at 7:00 PM with Military Roll Call to follow.
