Deek got his K-12 education in Chadron, graduating from Chadron High School before attending classes at Chadron State College for a year.

He then enlisted in the US Navy and served 4 years as a Teletype Repairman. During his time in the service, he was selected for and shipped out to Guam for some time and then transferred to Kodiak, AK.

This was a fun time, being able to take time to fish for salmon and experience lobster trapping. He was honorably discharged June 5, 1956.

Deek’s civilian years were spent working for himself. He was a member of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and was still a dedicated Senior Volunteer Fireman at the end. He was also a lifelong member of the Elks Club.

When he wasn’t working, Deek spent his time at home with his wife, Grace Ellen (DeHaven) Dierksen, and their two children Lynne (Dierksen) Simmons and Bart Dierksen.

Deek is survived by many friends and relatives including his daughter Lynne (Steve) Simmons of Chadron; son Bart Dierksen of Hay Springs; daughter-in-law Tracy Dierksen of Craig, CO; grandchildren Andy (Faye) Dierksen of Oswago, NY; Trent (Jamie) Dierksen of Hay Springs;, Maggie (Kyle) Suchy of Valparaiso, NE; and Matt (Desiree) Dierksen of Chadron, NE; great-grandchildren Wes, Kort, Stran, Wyatt, Chance, Deek and Astrid Dierksen; and  niece Launa (Kevin) Jones-Donahue.
