The Hay Springs Hawks outlasted Sioux County 63-45 Thursday night.
The Warriors struggled early with the Hawk’s full-court press, but pulled within one, 11-10, just before the end of the first period. Dylan Young hit a last second three to put the Hawks up 14-10 before the buzzer.
Hay Springs used the momentum to assemble an 18-10 run in the second quarter for a 32-20 lead at the break. Seven Hawks scored in the period, while the Warriors’ 10 points all came from Shane Gluth and Josh Perez.
The Hawks extended their lead with an 18-11 run in the third. Sioux County missed on seven of their nine free throws in the quarter to trail 50-31. The Warriors outpaced Hay Springs in the final eight minutes 14-13 but went three of six from the charity stripe.
