The Hay Springs and Gordon-Rushville girls basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end on Friday night in district championship games.
Hay Springs was deadlocked with Wilcox-Hildreth at 18 a piece at the half and snagged an early 2nd half lead, but the Falcons finished the 3rd and 4th quarters on a 24-12 run for the 42-33 victory in the D2-7 championship. The win gives Wilcox-Hildreth its first state qualification in school history.
Gordon-Rushville was tied with Clarkson/Leigh at 19 mid-way through the 2nd quarter of the C2-7 final only to see the Patriots go on a 10-4 into the break and hold on in the 2nd half for a 51-42 win.
Bridgeport rolled in the C1-2 championship game over Douglas County West 71-41 and are heading to state for the 3rd straight year.
Leyton pulled the upset of class D2 by taking down 5th seeded Lincoln Parkview Christian 46-29. The win sends the Warriors to state for the first time in 40 years.
The Class B girls district finals are taking place around the state today.
It’s an all-Panhandle matchup between 3rd seeded Sidney and 14th seeded Alliance. Tip off is at 3:00 pm.
