Memorial services for 93-year old Helen Fleming, widow of Dawes County native Chisna “Cue” Fleming, are Tues, March 5, 2024, at noon ET at the Church of Our Savior in Akron, OH.

Inurnment immediately following in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH.

Visitation is Monday, March 4, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM ET at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel in Fairlawn, OH.

The family requests no flowers. Instead, memorial donations may be made to the Church of our Savior, 471 Crosby St, Akron, OH 44302, Weathervane Community Playhouse, 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, OH, 44313, or the “Chisna Henry Fleming Scholarship” at Chadron State College, 1000 Main Street, Chadron NE 69337.

Helen Davison Fleming was born in Leavenworth, KS, on April 14, 1930, as the only daughter of Leroy and Beatrice Davison. She passed away on 21 Feb 21, 2024. 

Helen attended Nebraska Wesleyan College in Lincoln, NE, where she earned her degree in music. She also met her husband Chisna “Cue” Fleming in Lincoln. 

They married on Christmas Eve 1951 and remained happily married for 54 years until his death in 2006. They had 4 children: sons Kevin and Martin and daughters Giselle and Rachel.

Helen and Chisna moved to Paducah, KY, where Helen taught elementary school, but in 1955 the family moved to Akron, where Chisna went to work for Ohio Edison. Akron would remain Helen’s home for the next 65 years until she relocated nearby to live with her daughter Giselle.

Lovers of music and the theater, Helen and Chisna became active in the Weathervane Playhouse in Akron. In the early years, they performed in some productions, then became a part of the theater board, competing closely for top season ticket sales. Helen’s membership with the theater lasted 60 years. 

She was also a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Akron and sang in the church choir. She was active in Meals on Wheels, volunteered as a tax preparer through AARP, and served leadership roles at Weathervane and for the reunion association for the USS Cowpens, Chisna’s WWII navy ship. 

Helen loved to travel with her husband and visited every state and made some trips to Europe as well.

Helen was predeceased by her parents LeRoy and Beatrice Davison, her husband Chisna “Cue” Fleming, her son Kevin Fleming, and her brother Harold Davison.

She is survived by her son Martin and daughter-in-law Monika Fleming of Tarboro, NC; her daughter Giselle and son-in law Kevin Westmeyer of Canton, OH; and her daughter Rachel and son-in-law Brian Bean of Akron. 

Her extended family surviving her includes niece Mary Upton, nephew Mark Davison and wife Lisa, nephew Jeff Davison and wife Vanessa, all of Raleigh, NC; nephew Scott Davison and wife Joan of Florida, cousins Richard Mettee of Kansas City and Ivan Davison of Colorado; many in-laws and great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who share many memories.
