The Chadron School Board convened on Wednesday night for a regularly scheduled meeting that included the appointment of a new school board member. The vacancy on the board was generated following the removal of previous board member Cameron โ€œTyeโ€ Pourier at the November meeting.

Applications for the open seat were accepted until December 2nd, garnering six total applicants. After interviewing sessions that spanned over the course of three hours on Wednesday afternoon, it was recommended that the board approve Adam Hoesing to fill the vacant seat. The motion was carried unanimously with a 5-0 vote.

School board president Boone Huffman explains the process that brought Hoesing to the top of the list.

Hoesing, an assistant professor in the justice studies department at Chadron State College, says the previous public work as an attorney prompted him to apply for the school board opening. He outlines what he feels are qualities making him a good fit.

Hoesing says he isnโ€™t coming in to make change on the school board, but to listen and learn.

Hoesing will assume his duties at the board’s January meeting.
