Sioux Valley spoiled an early 1st quarter 9-0 Hot Springs run and pulled away from the Bison 65-52 in the consolation semifinals of the South Dakota boys class A state tournament in Sioux Falls.
Josh Kleinsasser, Camron Maciejewski and Preston Iverson all downed three pointers in the opening minutes to power Hot Springs’ run, but Sioux Valley answered and briefly pulled within 2 at 11-9 but again Hot Springs pulled ahead with an 11-5 run to end the quarter with a 22-14 lead.
The game was tied at 34 with a minute left in the 2nd quarter before a Maciejewski lay-up gave Hot Springs a 36-34 halftime lead.
The Cossacks ended the third quarter on a 14-0 run and carried a 48-38 lead into the final quarter.
Matt Close carried the Bison with 16 and Maciejewski finished with 15. Alec Squires had 21 for Sioux Valley.
Hot Springs will play Mount Vernon/Plankinton in the 7th place game on Saturday. MVP lost to St. Thomas More in the other consolation semifinal 65-57. The Cavs will meet Sioux Valley in the 5th place game.
