Funeral services for 82-year old Ila Twiss are Tues, Feb 6, 2024 at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pine Ridge, SD, with Father Peter Klink, SJ, and Deacon Bill White officiating.

Burial is at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Pine Ridge, SD

A one-night wake service starts Monday, Feb 5, at 3:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic in Pine Ridge, with Rosary services at 6:00.

Ila Ann (Merrival) Twiss was born on Sept 7, 1941 in Pine Ridge, SD to Hermus Merrival and Edith (Martin) Merrival. Ila passed away on Jan 29, 2024 at her home on Cheyenne Creek with her family by her side, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. 

Ila was raised on the Merrival Ranch on the north edge of Pine Ridge, SD, and began her career at the IHS Hospital in Pine Ridge on Nov 2, 1959. 

She went to the BIA Land Office on Jan 30, 1977, and retired from the BIA in 1995. Ila then went to work for the OST Land Office, retiring as the Land Office Director on Sep 4, 2001. 

Ila loved cats, dogs, and working in her flower gardens. She also liked to smoke more cigarettes and play slot machines.

Ila is survived by her husband Lloyd Twiss; son Gary Twiss (Tammy); daughters Rozan (Andy Johnson) Twiss and Cheryll Twiss; goddaughter Kim Cuny; hunka daughter Stacy Ecoffey; brother-in-law Edward Schuh; grandchildren Brandee Twiss, Chane Twiss, Corey Twiss, Jacey Twiss, Amber Johnson, Summer Johnson, Shellbe Johnson, Sunni Johnson, Sasha Johnson, and Andrew Johnson; great-grandchildren Santana Twiss, Amancio Twiss, Chane Twiss, Jr., Zane Weston, Alyssa Twiss, Tristin Twiss, Ailijah Rodriguez, and Brooklyn Twiss; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents Hermus and Edith Merrival; sisters Doris Clifford, Greta Brown, Lema Lee, Theresa Schuh, and Bonita Merrival; brother Donroy Merrival; and granddaughter Rhea Twiss-Hemingway.

Pallbearers will be Corey Twiss, Jacey Twiss, Chane Twiss, Marty Brewer, James Schuh, and Cole Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers will be All Nieces, Nephews, Friends & Relatives.
