The Pactola South and North boat ramp parking areas are scheduled for chip seal work August 19-20, and Aug 26-27.
The Pactola South Boat Ramp parking area will be closed on Monday, Aug. 19 and on Monday, Aug 26. The Pactola North Boat Ramp parking area will be closed on Tuesday, Aug. 20 and on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
“The Pactola Boat Ramps and Parking Restoration Project was authorized and funded through the Great American Outdoors Act,” said Ralph Adam, Physical Resources Staff Officer, Black Hills National Forest. “These parking lots receive heavy use by the public and the chip seal work will ensure these areas are sustainable for use for many years into the future.”
Asphalt surface treatments waterproof the surface, increase skid resistance, fill cracks and raveled surfaces and provide protection from oxidation, and traffic wear.
The chip seal is the first part of the project. Later in the Fall, the construction and maintenance crew from the Black Hills National Forest will extend the concrete at the boat ramps for improved, safer boat access. Dates on this work have not been established yet.
Pactola Reservoir is the largest and deepest reservoir in the black hills with 14 miles of shoreline. It’s located between Sheridan Lake and W Highway 44 on Highway 385 or roughly ten miles west of Rapid City.
