Interim WNCC President Gets 1-Year Contract Extension

Loading

Dr John Marrin will remain the interim president of Western Nebraska Community College through the end of the next academic year.

The WNCC board hired Marrin on a one-year contract last June shortly after President Carmen Simone resigned unexpectedly.

Board chair Lynne Klemke says Marrin’s contract was extended through June 2023 to “maintain the continuity and stability needed to complete (the school’s) strategic plan, accreditation demands, and shared governance.”

Klemke told KNEB News a well-designed strategic plan will also help the board identify the skills the members want in the next permanent president of WNCC.

The current timetable is to begin the formal search a year from now and have the new president start July 1st, 2023.

Marrin spent 22 years in a variety of roles at WNCC before becoming president of Lamar Community College in Colorado in 2008. He retired in 2016, but returned to WNCC as interim Executive Vice President from July 2019 to December 2020.
