James Robert Agler was born on February 21, 1952, to Robert Darwin and Carol Stringer Agler. He had one sister, Sharon Sue. Jim grew up with his family on their farm south of Hay Springs, NE.
Jim graduated from Hay Springs High School and went to Northeast College in Norfolk, NE. He also attended Nebraska Christian College in Norfolk.
Jim attended Chadron Christian Church with his family, where he met Deana Humphrey from Fort Robinson. Deana was attending Ozark Bible College in Joplin, MO. Jim began writing to Deana and they dated when she came home for holidays and summer break. Deana transferred to Norfolk Christian College to complete her senior year. The couple married May 31, 1971.
Jim and Deana became parents of two sons, Jesse and Grant. They made their home on Mirage Flats south of Hay Springs. There they enjoyed many good years farming with their family.
Jim completed his degree at Chadron State College in 1993. The couple sold their farm and moved with their son, Grant, to Carlsbad, NM. Jim was a case manager for Carlsbad Mental Health.
The following year Jim became a child protection investigator in Parsons, KS. He held that position for eight years.
Jim and Deana moved to Scottsbluff, NE, to be closer to his aging parents. There Jim worked on the Rehabilitation floor at Regional West Medical Center, until returning to Mirage Flats to farm with his son, Jesse.
He retired early and lived happily with Deana in their home on Mirage Flats. There he spent time getting to better know and love his Lord with whom he now resides after passing away on January 7, 2025.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Carol and Robert Darwin, and his sister, Sharon.
He is survived by his wife, Deana, his sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse and Jennifer Agler of Mirage Flats and Grant and Bethany Agler of Windsor, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley, Katelin, Jaxon, Elijah, Megan, Josiah and Nevaeh.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hay Springs Cemetery.
