James Arthur Osmotherly, 90, of Oelrichs SD passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford after a brief hospice stay.

James was born July 20, 1934, at the Sisters Hospital in Hot Springs SD to Rupert and Veronica Osmotherly. James spent his life operating the family ranch โ€œTee PeeCreek Ranchโ€ South of Hot Springs that his dad homesteaded in 1908. His family proudly continues to operate the ranch today.

James married Sandra Parsons on August 24, 1963. To this union they added sons David Leslie, Larry James, Kenneth Allen, and daughter Nancy Ann. James and Sandra eventually bought additional land in the Oelrichs area where they settled to continue to raise their children while farming and ranching.

James was preceded in death by his parents Rupert and Veronica Osmotherly, his sister and brother-in-law Edith and Oliver Romey, and brother William Osmotherly. James is survived by his wife Sandra, sons David Osmotherly, Larry Osmotherly, Kenneth (Anita) Osmotherly, and a daughter Nancy (Derrick) Sletto. He also survived by his Grandchildren who were the apple of his eye and could turn any frown to a smile; Tabatha Zimiga, Chantel Hill, Kylee Pourier, Zoey Osmotherly, Kadan Sletto, Hanna Sletto, and Erin Osmotherly as well as his Great Great Grandchildren Porshia Zimiga, Chevy Zimiga, Ricky Anderson, Teagan Roch, Parker Hill, and Stetson Neumann. James is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as his sister-in-law Ethel Osmotherly.

Visitation will be held 4:00 โ€“ 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, at Chamberlain McColleyโ€™s Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6th, 2024, at Chamberlain McColleyโ€™s Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Lay Minister Justin Trent officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Oelrichs Community Center.

A memorial has been established in Jameโ€™s name to benefit the Oelrichs Volunteer Fire Department to fund a new Fire Hall. Memorials may be sent to: Oelrichs Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 2, Oelrichs, SD 57763.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
