Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon is in charge of arrangements for James Morton.

James Morton passed away suddenly at the age of 44. James left behind a loving wife of 6 years, Juli Morton, age 38. James had 6 children: Natascha, Jeremiah, Eden Counts, Braydin, Kordell, and Tristan, and two step-children, Kara, and Raymond (whom he cared for as if they were his own).

James graduated in 1996 from Hay Springs High School, then ventured out into the world with his Uncle Shane as part of a harvesting crew before he was in a horrible accident that nearly took his life.

James suffered serious injuries to his head, diminished eyesight, damaged left elbow, deep cuts to his face, and two large gashes on his right bicep. Doctors had to move muscle from his arm to make an elbow and skin graft in that area. James long suffered from the after-effects of those injuries.

James was married in 1998 to Tabatha Jo Abold, who passed away in 2005. They had two children together: Natascha Lynn (Morton) Vollmer, born in 1999, and Jeremiah Koal Morton, born in 2001. James and Tabatha lived in Scottsbluff, Rapid City, Chadron, and Rushville during their marriage.

James moved to Craig, Co, in 2005 – following his Grandma Tiny and Uncle Shane and with his best friend Justin Fisher. Many people thought James and Justin were brothers. They continued to enjoy fishing and poker during their time in Craig.

James moved back to Nebraska 2006 and enrolled and successfully graduated Sage Truck Driving School in Casper, Wyo.

James moved back to Craig in 2007, where he met Vicki Lynn Tromburg. They married in August of 2007 in Rushville and had two sons: Braydin Wayne Morton and Kordell James Morton. James later moved to Rising City, NE, where he worked as a truck driver hauling grain.

James moved back to Craig again in 2012. He worked for Coca Cola, where he met Juli Taylor. James and Juli moved to Gordon in 2014 and relocated a year later to Rapid City, where James attended school to become an HVAC technician.

James and Juli married on December 1, 2015, with James loving her children, Kara Lynn Scapardine and Raymond Scapardine, as if they were his own. James and Julie then had Tristan James Morton together.

James’ health began to deteriorate in 2015 as he began to experience issues with his lungs, heart, knee issues, and eyes as well as terrible headaches that finally culminated in his being determined disabled in 2020.

James was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish. He could fish for hours and hours, and could be found fishing whenever he had an opportunity.

James also was a man of sports, specifically football. He was a super supporter of his Denver Broncos, a true orange and blue man through and through.

Bowling was another love taken more than seriously by James. It was more than a passion – it was an obsession, but he was also always ready for a game of poker, any form of poker.

James was the rock of many people’s lives – always ready to lend a helping hand, whenever he could. He was the type of man that would give the shirt off his own back if he thought you needed it.

James was a true giver – an imperfect man, but perfect in the eyes of the Lord.

James is survived by his parents Rita Charleen (Morton) Anderson and Richard Anderson of Gordon; siblings Frank William Morton (Britni Rosane) of Rapid City, SD; Joe Steele of Pine Ridge, SD, Jamie Steele of Evergreen, SD, Walter John Anderson (Shanita Webb, deceased) of Kansas City, KS, Tommy Lee Paul Anderson of Gordon, Deidra Steele of Pierre, SD, and Richard Michael Lincoln Anderson (Jessica Palmer) of Chadron.

James was preceded in death by his brother Duncan Steele Jr of Pine Ridge, and both his paternal and maternal grandparents: Donald Anderson and Joanne Anderson, Juanita “Tiny” Merrill and Francis “Fritz” Avery Morton, Paternal Grandmother.

Life According to James: “Make memories with family and put family first.”
