Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for 77-year old Jerry Oleson of Crawford, NE, on Saturday, September 26th, at 1pm at the Crawford Community Center with a reception to follow at the Legend Buttes Golf Course at 2 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Nebraska Mid-American Honor Flight Inc of Chadron or the Crawford Volunteer Fire Department.
Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Oleson was born on April 6th, 1943, to Guy Louis Oleson and Erma Lee (Fowler) Oleson in Culbertson, NE. He crossed to his heavenly home on July 28th, 2020 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, NE.
Jerry spent his younger years attending school in Trenton, NE, before moving to Englewood, Colo. Jerry joined the U-S Army in April of 1961 and was proud to serve his county.
In December of 1970 he entered into marriage to Glee Ann Rising, a union that included Vince and Valarie Vieyra, whom he considered his own. On August 14th, 1972, his son Nathan Oleson was born.
Jerry would make Crawford his home and spent 28 years working for the BNSF Railroad, where he gained many friends. Jerry never met a stranger and was an avid Denver Bronco and Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
He could always be found at the Legend Buttes golf course in Crawford, but Jerry’s greatest joy was being surrounded by his grandchildren.
Last year in 2019, Jerry was privileged to take a trip to Washington DC on the honor flight with his son Nathan – something he cherished for the rest of his life.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his 4 siblings.
Jerry is survived by his sons Vince (Kelly) Vieyra of Hot Springs, SD, Nathan (Chandell) Oleson of Crawford, NE and daughter Valarie Vieyra of Torrington, Wyoming, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many family and friends.
Chamberlain Chapel is in charge of arrangements for Jerry Oleson.
