James Leslie Claussen was born January 17, 1926, at the home of his parents Herman J and N Hazel (Grantham) Claussen in the Deadhorse community of rural Chadron. He passed away on October 29, 2022, at Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron.
The sixth child of 11, Jim helped at the Chadron Sale Barn while in high school and continued to work there on sale days for 40 years. He also was employed at Henkens Implement and Eitemiller Oil, and in 1946, he took on a rural mail route and delivered mail for 52 years.
In 1947, Jim married Doris I. Geister, who passed away in 1981. In 1984, he married Bonnie E (Fuchser) Goeringer, who also preceded him in death in 2012. He later met a special friend, Dona, and enjoyed several years with her.
James was an active member of the Chadron Elks Lodge and was as Elk of the Year in 1971, District Deputy in 1991, and Exalted Ruler in 1976 and again in 1986.
Jim was preceded in death by his wives Doris and Bonnie; his parents; all 10 of his siblings; infants Charles and Helen, Ramona Durham, Claywell, Marie Vance, Hollis, Catherine Baragar, Harry, John, and Dale; stepdaughter Sheryl Hershman, and special friend, Dona Fleming.
James is survived by stepdaughter Susan K Brown and step-grandsons Brian (Cyndee) Hershman and Kevin Hershman, step-great-grandson Dylan (Hayley) Cruz, all of Lincoln, NE; and many beloved nieces and nephews as well as many lifelong friends.
