John Stover

A departure ceremony for 69-year old John W Stover Sr will be held Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 2:00 PM with family and friends officiating. The site is 4 miles west of Oglala South Side, across from Garnier Bridge

Visitation at the departure site will precede the ceremony, running from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM.

*All attending must wear a face mask and observe social distancing. No more than one in the viewing room at a time, hand sanitizer will be provided

if you choose to sit for a bit, please bring your own chair. A meal will be provided in “to go” containers throughout the viewing. This is a very sacred time, PLEASE behave in a respectful manner.

Burial will be at a later date in the Stover Family Cemetery, Pine Ridge, SD   

John Stover, Sr. was born on August 26, 1950 in Pine Ridge, SD to Edward Stover II and Emma (Gillspie) Stover.  John made his journey to the Spirit World on August 24, 2020 in Rapid City, SD.

John Stover is survived by his spouse, Angela Stover; sons, Robert (Colleen) Stover, Sr., John Stover, Jr., and Edward (Jenny) Stover III; grandchildren (12), Hannah Hall, Robert Stover, Jr., Eileen Stover, Duane Stover, Kyle Murphy, Alyssa Stover, Emily Stover, Tyler Stover, Marina Stover, Cante’ Skuya Stover, Edward Stover IV, and McKenzie Stover; and 7 great grandchildren, Charlie and Alexandria Hall, Draco White Horse, Braya and Duane Stover, Jr., Kyle Murphy, Jr., and Keagan Murphy.

John was preceded in death by his father, Edward Stover II; mother, Emma (Gillspie) Stover; and sister, Eileen Stover (Hawk).

Pallbearers will be Daniel Hudspeth, Jr., Oscar Hudspeth, Robert Stover, Jr., Duane Stover, Kyle Murphy, Richard Hagen II, Cory Black Feather, and Richard Toledo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jaydin Peters, Cecil Apple, all who called John grandpa, all students who ever rode the John “Stove” bus, the Pine Ridge and Wolf Creek bus drivers, and all school staff who worked with John. Also all cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, grandparents, relatives near & far, and John’s many, many friends!
