K9 Officer Helps Lead To Chadron Drug Arrests

Loading

A Kansas couple is in custody in Chadron on drug charges, with much of the credit going to Sukey, the Chadron Police Department’s new K9 officer.

On Wednesday, Sukey and her handler, Officer Seth Orsborn, responded along with Officer Christina Hanson to a call from a local motel manager who was ejecting two guests for possible marijuana use.

Orsborn says when they arrived at the motel, they found 33-year old Derek Howard and 39-year old Tamara Perkins moving items from their room into a vehicle.

While the officers were talking with Perkins and Howard, Orsborn “activated” Sukey and she alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, which was then searched along with the motel room..

During the searches, Orsborn and Hanson found used syringes containing suspected methamphetamine, another 3.5 grams of suspected meth, suspected marijuana, and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Howard and Perkins were both then placed under arrest and taken to the Dawes County Jail on identical felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and infractions for marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Bail for each is 10% of $15,000.
