Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Kearney County Sheriffโ€™s Office, apprehended a juvenile Monday night after a trooper clocked a vehicle traveling at over 160 miles per hour.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Monday, a trooper observed a Chevrolet Corvette traveling at over 130 miles per hour on South 2nd Avenue in Kearney, near the I-80 interchange. The vehicle continued southbound on Highway 44 and the trooper attempted a traffic stop.

The driver of the Corvette refused to yield and accelerated. The trooper initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reached a speed of 168 miles per hour. The vehicle turned eastbound onto Highway 6 and continued fleeing. Before the vehicle reached Minden, another trooper successfully deployed stop sticks to slow the vehicle.

As the vehicle reached Minden, the driver turned off the vehicleโ€™s lights, pulled onto a side street, and parked. It was quickly located by a Kearney County deputy and troopers arrived moments later. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident.

The driver, a 16-year-old male from Kearney, was cited for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, and speeding. The entire pursuit lasted approximately ten minutes and covered approximately 20 miles
