Keep Chadron Beautiful and Western Community Health Resources were selected for the 100 Women Who Care About Chadron impact awards during the group’s annual meeting.
The membership gathered at the Downtown Plaza Monday evening to listen to presentations from five non-profit organizations for its annual grants, with Keep Chadron Beautiful earning the $10,000 award. While WCHR’s award amount is not yet available, the second-place winner typically receives $4,500-5,500.
Each member of the 100 Women Who Care About Chadron group donates $100 toward the impact awards, with the first $10,000 going toward the first-place selection and the remainder to ,the second-place selection by the membership. Danny Anderson, the executive director of Keep Chadron Beautiful, said it was an honor to be among the nominees and thanked 100 Women Who Care About Chadron for the annual impact awards. KCB has several beautification goals established for the next 10 years and is working to extend its recycling efforts in the schools and community.
The prescription assistance program by Western Community Health Resources was started in 2005 and has helped more than 1,300 people receive $10 million in prescriptions. Sheri Blome said many life-saving prescriptions can cost thousands of dollars a year, and the assistance program helps reduce those costs for local residents. The program lost its largest funding source this year.
Also nominated for impact awards this year were Girls on the Run, a program for elementary and middle school girls; Post Playhouse and its community engagement and education efforts and Camp Norwesca’s camper scholarships.
