The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s golf coaches have picked Chadron State to finish 6th out of 11 teams this season.
Coaches used a 1-10 point system and couldn’t vote for their own team.
Colorado State-Pueblo was picked to win the league, receiving 99 points and 9 first-place votes, followed by Colorado Christian with 88 points and 2 firsts.
Then comes Colorado Mesa with 83 points, Metro State 69, Regis 60, and Chadron State with 46, one more than Westminster. Rounding out the preseason poll are South Dakota Mines, Fort Lewis, Black Hills State, and Adams State.
Chadron State Head Coach John Ritzen has no newcomers this season and lost only one golfer from last year.
Unfortunately it was his most consistent one – multiple program record holder and former state champion Alpine Hickstein, who exhausted her college eligibility
Ritzen’s 7-member squad is his most experienced ever: 5 seniors and 2 sophomores with all 5 seniors having scored for the Eagles last season.
Chadron State’s first action is this Friday and Saturday, Sept 8 and 9, in Colorado at Colorado Christian’s Swan Memorial Tournament at the Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield.
