Last Day For Nebraska, South Dakota State Fairs

Loading

Today is the last day of the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island and the South Dakota State Fair in Huron.

It’s Veterans Day at the Nebraska State Fair. Entertainment and Events Director Karli Schultz says it was moved this year to Veterans Day at the suggestion and and request of many of the veterans who attended last year.

Schultz says the veterans made it loud and clear that they wanted Veterans Day at the Fair to be on a day most people had off and could come and take part in the celebration.

Veterans Day kicks off at 10:00 with a Nebraska Army National Guard helicopter display allowing an up-close look at various helicopters and military vehicles.

The Veterans Day program is at 10:30 a.m. in the Heartland Events Center. Local veteran Ed Meedel will be the host with Major General Wendy Johnson of the Air National Guard the featured speaker.

Today’s entertainment at the Nebraska State Fair has high school rodeo action in the morning and the Nebraska State Championship Demolition Derby at 2:00.

The drawing in the 1868 Foundation’s 2023 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab giveaway is in the morning with the formal presentation of the pickup to the winner at 2:30. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the Foundation, the State Fair’s endowment arm.

The South Dakota State Fair offers GRAMMY® Award-winning country singer-songwriter Carly Pearce.

Pearce has had 4 songs reach #1, and her 3x platinum-certified “I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Lee Brice won both the 2020 CMA Awards Musical Event and 2021 ACM Awards Music Event, plus ACM Single of the Year.

She picked up her second consecutive ACM Music Event of the Year last year for her duet with Ashley McBryde “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” just the third duet between two solo women to top Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

The song also took home the 2022 CMA Musical Event of the Year and became the first female pairing to win the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance
